One night I opened the door to the garage and saw a huge rodent running away from me. I screamed and shut the door. It looked like a huge gray rat with a long pink tail. It was bigger than a cat. I was so shocked!!! A rat in my garage!! I ran to Ed and he ran out to check on it. He looked everywhere and couldn't find it. So we figured it ran out. We closed the garage door.
I was so thankful it was gone - or so I thought. The next morning, Ed said the garage was trashed. My bike was knocked down, Ed's glasses were broken, stuff was knocked off of shelves, and there were paw prints everywhere. So our little friend was still living in our garage. All day, I thought there was a rat in my garage. It was very stressful to take the kids to school or even enter the garage. I kept the garage door open all day hoping the rodent would leave. Then I found something horrible!!! I knew our friend was still living with us. I saw a huge piece of poo on the door mat. I of course had to call Ed and tell him all about it.
When Ed got home that night we cleaned out the garage. Norm, our neighbor, said it sounded like it was a possom. Sure enough, Ed found the possom hiding in the corner by our water heater. I think it wanted to bed down for the winter. Ed put a glove on and just reached in and picked up the possom. They set it free by the river. I am now very cautious when I enter my garage at night. End of story

That is so gross! I think I'm going to have NIGHTMARES from those pictures and that story. I couldn't step foot in my garage if that happened to me!
I could totally see how it could look like huge rat! That is so discusting! I'm glad Ed was able to catch it as quickly as he did so you wouldn't have to kkep wondering where it was.
Ewwww! That would have freaked me out, Janna! I keep a box of rodent poison in my garage in case any of them ever get in. If the box is chewed through, I know a mouse has gotten into the garage. At least then, I know it's eaten poison and went away to die. Yuck!
I can still only access your blog by clicking on the link through someone else's blog. Oh well!
I can't say I would have loved having a possum in my house/garage but I wouldn't have lost much sleep over it either. I live on Mt. Hood and "critters" are a part of the package. I had a squirrel eat a hole through my front door while I was in Mexico (then come inside later on and run laps around the coffee table and sit on the couch,) I saw a vole when I was on the phone w/ a friend because I had just sliced my finger open and needed stitches and couldn't catch it and it was on my window sill when I got home from the clinic, and a couple weeks later I spent the better part of a Sunday hunting down a mouse which I eventually caught only to have it run up my arm and accross my neck and luckily I was outside by the time it ran down my other arm. All of this and I have two cats, so imagine what it would be like cat-less! (Though to be honest it was the squirrel incident that prompted me to get the cat in the first place.)
